BCCI took a big decision (Social media)
Sports News: A recent tragic incident at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has shaken the most prestigious institution of Indian cricket, BCCI. Eleven people lost their lives in a stampede during celebrations following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s maiden IPL title victory. Now the BCCI is taking this matter very seriously and is preparing for a big change.
The celebration of RCB's historic victory after 18 years of waiting was organized at the stadium in Bengaluru. However, the overwhelming crowd and poor event management turned the celebration into a tragedy. Thousands of people swarmed the stadium and its surroundings, and the authorities failed to control the situation. Many people were crushed amid the chaos, and 11 people died a painful death.
After this accident, BCCI has taken immediate action and decided to form a three-member special committee, which will submit its report in the next 15 days. The work of this committee will be to set practical, effective, and strict rules for such events so that such a tragedy does not happen again in the future.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has been made the chairman of this committee. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia and senior administrator Rajiv Shukla have also been included with him.
This committee will decide how to control the crowd in the future whenever there is a big event, especially a post-victory ceremony or an open stadium event, how to ensure security, and what the plan should be in case of emergency.
Possible guidelines will include:
The BCCI, in an official statement, expressed deep sorrow over the incidents in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru and made it clear that the board will now give priority to the safety of fans and not just cricket. The board says, "The celebration of sports is incomplete until every spectator returns home safely."
This incident is a reminder to Indian sports history that just winning on the field is not enough; the arrangements outside the stadium are equally important. The BCCI is now moving towards a structure where every sporting event is not only grand but also safe.
